A true story:
A young avreich was stopped by a cop for speeding here in Israel. He tried to defend himself. He said "מגו that I could have said that my wife is about to give birth, believe me that I didn't realize that I was speeding".
The cop wasn't impressed.
[Especially since not noticing that one is speeding doesn't absolve one from having to pay the fine].
