Imagine

Li-ilui nishmas John ben his Mom

Tonight we were trying to give a shiur on a piece of Sfas Emes but we got sidetracked to talking about the song "Imagine". I am staying across the street from where John Lennon was killed [in 1981 - I remember the night well. I am OLD!] so I think about him sometimes.

It is one of the dumbest songs ever written and I am confident that he was high when he wrote it.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today

No heaven. No afterlife. People living for today. WOW!! A bunch of wild animals who care nothing for the future or for anybody else. Nobody to answer to so they can be unharnessed animals. They can steal, commit adultery -whatever feels good at that moment and never have to worry about consequences. FANTASTIC!!!

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Nothing to kill or die for. TERRIFIC. Nothing that really matters for which you would give up your life. No religion. WOW!! Like - Communism which starved, tortured and  killed tens of MILLIONS. No G-d so anarchy reigns.

Imagine all the people living life in peace, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world, you
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

No possessions!!! SOUNDS GREAT. Anyone interested?

But the conclusion "and the world will be as one" [with the brotherhood of man] IS correct. It is a pasuk in Tzfania:

כִּי אָז אֶהְפֹּךְ אֶל עַמִּים שָׂפָה בְרוּרָה לִקְרֹא כֻלָּם בְּשֵׁם יְהוָה לְעָבְדוֹ שְׁכֶם אֶחָד
Indeed the brotherhood of man - but based on calling out the name of Hashem.
