A New Creation

The gemara makes a famous statement - גר שנתגייר כקטן שנולד דמי, a ger that converts is like a newborn baby. The gemara doesn't offer a source for this assertion.

Tosfos in Chagiga says that the Tanna בן הא הא is called that because he was a ger and the letter of geirus is ה. Avraham had a ה added to his name as did Sarah.

The world was created with a ה as Chazal say on the word בהבראם - it means בה' בראם, with a ה he created the world.

So we see that ה means a new creation and thus with respect to a ger [who also gets a new ה as evidenced by Avraham, Sarah and later Ben Hey Hey] we learn that he is also a new creation.
