The gemara says [shabbos 105b] כל הבוכה על אדם כשר מוחלין לו על כל עונותיו - Anyone who cries [over the death] of a good person is forgiven for all his sins.
It also says there that Hashem takes the tears, counts them and places them in a special storage place.
It is important to purify ourselves before purim.
